Kevin Pfister (*1998) is a German jazz pianist, composer, and arranger based in Mainz.
Growing up in Schweinfurt, he discovered his passion for music at an early age. He began studying classical piano at the age of eight. During his time at the musically oriented Celtis-Gymnasium, his musical development was strongly encouraged, and his interest in jazz grew increasingly deep.
Kevin studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the University of Music Würzburg, where he worked with teachers including Tine Schneider, Prof. Bernhard Pichl, Prof. Marko Lackner, Harmen Fraanje, Rob van Bavel, and Hans Vroomans. During this time, in addition to piano playing, a special interest in composition and arrangement began to take shape. He now leads his own big band PUJO, which released its debut EP Introducing PUJO, in November 2025.
His musical work is characterized by a quest for honest expression - in every note he plays and writes. Driven by harmonic curiosity and a reflective approach to music, he creates musical narratives that emerge through both deliberate exploration and unexpected discovery. He focuses increasingly on his musical roots and, particularly as a solo pianist, explores how classical music can be integrated openly and flexibly into improvisational contexts. In November 2024, he released his solo piano debut album Form.
A central element of his artistic world is the piano trio, where he is particularly fascinated by the interplay and the collective creation of new musical narratives in the moment.
Kevin has been a member of the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra and has performed in Estonia, France, Austria, Finland, and the Netherlands, among other places. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Jazz Piano at the University of Music Mainz under Prof. Sebastian Sternal.
Since April 2025, he has also been teaching piano - both jazz and classical - at the Clara Schumann Music School in Düsseldorf.
